Cheshire Home Open Day Sales - 3 July 2005 (Sunday)

July 9th, 2005 by cuthbertchia

Dsc03946_1This is my first ever involvement in such a charity event. Even my mum requested my help when she had a stall in a similar event few months back and I rejected her invitation to. Oh man… now I felt bad.

My firm’s club… which is called KEYS in short, has a stall in the open-day sales selling "tau fu hwa". Previously, this product of ours was selling off-the-hook and it was sold-off in matter of minutes (alright, I am exaggarating)! However, this year, it wasn’t selling as fast as we thought it could.

Dsc03940_edited_3During the course of my competitor survey, there were some other stalls selling similar items and in similar packaging as ours, and one of it happens to be Nana’s parents. They were telling me the same thing too, that their ‘tau fu hwa’ wasn’t selling. However, they had back-up. Instead of just selling tau-fu-hwa alone, they also did sell some other edible goods.

Dsc03970_3As for ours, our back-up were breads and buns, which we recommended it to be eaten alongside with our ‘tau fu hwa’, but not many people practise that though.

Dsc03955_1While I was walking around being a mobile ‘tau fu hwa’ seller, I bumped into these 2 lady friend of mine. I wasn’t expecting to have met them in such places. They were helping their friend selling laksa though, and their laksa was selling beyond expectation. There were customers every minute. So since my ‘tau fu hwa’ was in such low demand, I decided to annoy their customer by selling my product to them…. hehehehe! Not sure if there were any negative business implication though…. but I managed to sell off some…. but mostly to the people I know of.

Dsc04012_edited_1At the end of the day, most of us adjourned into a small room for a cash-count. While all of us was counting the cash, look at Elizabeth @ Ah Buk, playing with her handphone instead! Teng-teng-teng… caught in the act!! :) After all the cash collections was counted, all our hands smell of the mixture of cash notes and coins.

Dsc03942_1Although our ‘tau fu hwa’ wasn’t selling as expected, we managed to generate a sales value of 3 figures. Wohhh!! Good work ler!! Our hard work had paid off… all was made possible because of these people… yea yea, me included… hehehehe… and some other colleagues who were not in this photo as well.

Lok Thian

Dsc03522_1After 3 years and more of "cuts and pastes", call-overs, draft accounts, AR-ing, auditing and deferred tax….. my friend who indirectly brought me into Ernst & Young (EY) had call it quit. I would not have applied EY if it wasn’t for her, as she’s the one who made known to me that there was a vacancy in the firm back then. I’ve known her more than her years serving in EY. She’s my aunty’s best friend… and i’ve been calling her ‘aunty’ ever since I knew that fact!

Dsc03526Her farewell celebration was celebrated together with another colleague of mine who is resigning as well, and also a birthday celebration for some other colleagues. Looks like its killing two birds with one stone eh? The dinner was in Lok Thian… and it was structured in such a way that it was as if a wedding rehearsal dinner for Judy and Heng… yea, the lovebirds (so as you know, Judy’s my aunty, the farewell celebrant and Heng’s her other half). Of course, there was a YAM SENG!!!

Dsc03506The food was kinda… unique, I would say. Check this out.. its a roasted duck dipped in mayonnaise! Its very filling, and it tasted… weird. I ‘m used to of having roasted duck with the sweet brown sticky sauce, u know… not mayonnaise… and the best place to have such duck in Kuching will  be Li Garden. Damn, thinking of it now made me drool!!

Dsc03546The other highlight of the evening was how Eunice was clad. WEE WIT… many commented she looked fantabalous in that short skirt! WOHHHHH!!! Wonder if she’ll coordinate her wardrobe in such fashion, after her attire was so well-received by the general public… hehehehe….. ;p

The weekend’s here… and I just can’t wait to rest and relax! This week has been a very good week. Exam’s over…. Michael Jackson was acquitted…. and my car is finally HERE! However, I still can’t collect it as yet, cos there are still some documentation that are still outstanding. Hoping I can’t drive it next week though.

Life after the “Not Guilty” verdict

June 16th, 2005 by cuthbertchia

Oh… I am watching the 8TV advert for Malaysian Idol… and I could not believe my eyes and ears that there’s a Michael Jackson impersonator in the audition. Oh boy!! Sad to say but….. he sounded awful! I have a bad feeling that he’ll be heavily critised……

Well.. today’s my first day of work after 3 weeks of study-break. Was pretty lazy though, and the aura of working is just not there. I was lost in "translation" for a moment… I had an hour of settling myself down and fit myself into a different environment. When I saw my table, it was full of files. Thankfully, those are not audit files that are waiting for me to be cleared… but those are the files for KEYS (Kelab Ernst & Young Sarawak). So as you know, I am the newly-appointed Treasurer for KEYS for 2005 - 2006. An official hangover will be conducted next Wednesday…. but my work officially starts today, as a Treasurer that is.

Well, everyone in the office was very welcoming… and I am glad to see a ‘complete’ office… where, at least, almost everyone is back from their study leave. The noise just made me feel so much like I wanna made it noisier… you know…. ;)

Despite all the highs and lows in the office today, I am still in a jovial mood. I am still very happy on the verdict… and I am glad, so super glad that he was acquitted. What made me even happier was that, Mix FM is so Michael Jackson-friendly these few days as they kept playing his music!! Thank you! What more could I ask for…..

It is everywhere!

Money by Michael Jackson

June 14th, 2005 by cuthbertchia

This song perfectly says it all! It was written by Michael Jackson nearly a decade ago.

Money…

Lie for it
Spy for it
Kill for it
Die for it

So you call it trust
But I say it’s just
In the devil’s game
Of greed and lust

They don’t care
They’d do me for the money
They don’t care
They use me for the money

So you go to church
Read the holy word
In the scheme of life
It’s all absurd

They don’t care
They’d kill for the money
Do or dare
The thrill for the money

You’re saluting the flag
Your country trusts you
Now you’re wearing a badge
You’re called the just few
And you’re fighting the wars
A soldier must do
I’ll never betray or deceive you my friend but…

If you show me the cash
Then I will take it
If you tell me to cry
Then I will fake it
If you give me a hand
Then I will shake it

You do anything for money…

Anything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil

Insurance?
Where do your loyalties lie?
Is that your alibi?
I don’t think so
You don’t care
You’d do her for the money
Say it’s fair
You sue her for the money
Want your pot of gold
Need the midas touch
Bet you sell your soul
Cuz your God is such
You don’t care
You kill for the money
Do or dare
The thrill for the money

Are you infected with the same disease of lust, gluttoney and greed?
Then watch the ones
With the biggest smiles
The idle jabbers…
Cuz they’re the backstabbers

If you know it’s a lie
Then you will swear it
If you give it with guilt
Then you will bear it
If it’s taking a chance
Then you will dare it

You say you wouldn’t do it
For all the money in the world
I don’t think so
If you show me the man
Then I will sell him
If you ask me to lie
Then I will tell him
If you’re stealing with god
Then you will hell him

You do anything for money

Michael Jackson : NOT GUILTY!

June 14th, 2005 by cuthbertchia

It is over! It finally is over! I do not have to wake up every morning and check the latest development on the verdict in TV anymore… I do not have to watch the news program til the wee hours for any possibility of a verdict announcement. It is all over! Michael Jackson is NOT GUILTY of ALL THE 10 CHARGES!

When I found out about the acquittal this morning, I was so glued to the TV until I neglected my revision. I was having exam today, but hey, nothing is as important as this ( I hate to say it, but I felt that way…. hehehe).

I am happy that CNN was covering the acquittal the whole day, even up to now, as I am typing this.

There’s nothing I can do right now except for going back to my TV and continuing watching it.

Thank you to all those who stood by him all this while, thank you for not teasing nor ridiculing me for my obsession over him, thank you to those who believe in him, thank you to all those who did not condemn nor pre-judge him.

I have never been this proud, as a fan!
